A BILL

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 10-1-167 SO AS TO REQUIRE AN OBJECT CONTAINING THE WORDS OF THE TEN COMMANDMENTS TO BE DISPLAYED ON ONE WALL IN EVERY ROOM OF EVERY STATE-OWNED BUILDING, PUBLIC SCHOOL BUILDING, AND EVERY ENTITY THAT HAS RECEIVED A CHARTER AS AN ELEEMOSYNARY CORPORATION BY THE SECRETARY OF STATE.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 10-1-167. An object containing the words of the Ten Commandments must be displayed on one wall, in every room, of every state-owned building, public school building, and every entity that has received a charter as an eleemosynary corporation by the Secretary of State. The display of an object containing the words of the Ten Commandments must be in the same manner and appearance generally as other documents and objects displayed and must not be presented or displayed in any fashion that results in calling attention to it apart from the other displayed documents and objects."

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
