TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA SENATE UPON THE DEATH OF MR. FRED "RUSTY" RUSHTON III OF WARRENVILLE FOLLOWING THE TRAGIC TRAIN DERAILMENT IN GRANITEVILLE ON JANUARY 6, 2005, AND TO EXTEND THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, the members of the Senate were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Mr. Fred "Rusty" Rushton III of Warrenville following the catastrophic Graniteville train derailment and chemical spill on January 6, 2005; and

Whereas, this loss is felt deeply in the community and in the Stevens Steam Plant where Mr. Rushton worked as a dedicated and experienced boiler operator; and

Whereas, Mr. Rushton was a gregarious individual and his quick wit was well known throughout the Avondale Company. He started at Avondale as a teenager in 1979 working as a weekend cleaner at the Warren and Hickman plants. He came to work at the Gregg plant in 1986 and, after pursuing outside opportunities, returned to Stevens Steam in 1993 where he worked for twelve years; and

Whereas, he was always willing to lend a hand and share his extensive on-the-job knowledge among the extremely close-knit group of nineteen associates at Stevens Steam; and

Whereas, Mr. Rushton loved to ride his motorcycle and often traveled to the beach and mountains, and during good weather enjoyed barbecuing with his friends and family; and

Whereas, a devoted family man, he used to coach boys football at Gregg Park; and

Whereas, Mr. Rushton, a life long resident of Aiken County, was a loving companion to Kimberley Kelly and a devoted father to his three sons, Christopher Rushton, Dustin Rushton, and Shane Kelly; and two daughters, Kristen Kelly and Caroline Kelly. He is also survived by his father, Fred Rushton, Jr., and a sister, Freda Kosten; and

Whereas, Mr. Fred "Rusty" Rushton III earned the respect and admiration of all who knew and loved him and the South Carolina Senate is proud to honor him and acknowledge this great loss to the community and State. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the death of Mr. Fred "Rusty" Rushton III of Warrenville following the tragic train derailment in Graniteville on January 6, 2005, and extend the deepest sympathy to his family and many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Ms. Kimberley Kelly of Aiken County.
