VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES UPON THE PASSING OF MARY KAY FULFORD WARD AND TO CONVEY DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HER FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Mary Kay Fulford Ward on December 26, 2006; and
Whereas, a native of Knoxville, Tennessee, Mrs. Ward was the daughter of Leonard and Peggy Fulford; and
Whereas, a 1982 graduate of Bearden High School and a 1986 graduate of East Tennessee State University, she was an active member of Phi Mu Sorority and earned her degree in elementary education; and
Whereas, Mary Kay married the love of her life, Army First Lieutenant Ward Ward in 1986, and they traveled the world during twenty years of service, living in Savannah, Georgia; Chicago, Illinois; Indianapolis, Indiana; Wurzburg, Germany; Columbia, South Carolina; Leavenworth, Kansas; Seattle, Washington; and Washington, D.C.; and
Whereas, a selfless and generous person by nature, Mrs. Ward touched countless lives on her life's amazing journey. After teaching school for five years, she stopped working full-time to raise her children but continued to serve as a substitute teacher, was active in her children's schools as room parent and event organizer, and served as a Girl Scout leader and Sunday School teacher. One of her favorite activities was coaching the "Girls on the Run" program and teaching fitness and life lessons to girls, ages nine to eleven; and
Whereas, a fitness enthusiast, she embarked on what became a fifteen-year career as a fitness trainer, aerobics instructor, and teacher of basket weaving; and
Whereas, Mrs. Ward became a passionate runner winning many 5K, 10K, and half marathon events. She also completed five full marathons including qualifying for and running in the Boston Marathon. She was so devoted to running that she even logged 1131.1 miles in the final year of her life while fighting breast cancer and undergoing chemotherapy treatments; and
Whereas, a loving and devoted mother, Mrs. Ward adored her two daughters, Katelyn and Ruby, and one son, Gray; and
Whereas, though it is with heavy hearts that the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives mourn the loss of Mary Kay Fulford Ward, we certainly join her family and many friends across the world in the celebration of her richly blessed life of service, faith, and love. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the passing of Mary Kay Fulford Ward and convey deepest sympathy to her family and many friends.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the family of Mary Kay Fulford Ward.
