VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 24-3-45 SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT THE DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS SHALL ESTABLISH AN INTERNAL GRIEVANCE SYSTEM TO PROVIDE VICTIMS AND DEPENDENT BENEFICIARIES WHO ARE ENTITLED TO RECEIVE PRISONER WAGE DEDUCTIONS UNDER SECTION 24-3-40 A FORUM TO PURSUE CLAIMS THAT MAY ARISE PURSUANT TO THAT SECTION.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. Article 1, Chapter 3, Title 24 of the 1976 code is amended by adding:
"Section 24-3-45. (A) The Department of Corrections shall establish an internal grievance system to provide victims and dependent beneficiaries who are entitled to receive prisoner wage deductions under Section 24-3-40 a forum to pursue claims that may arise pursuant to that section.
(B) The department must inform all registered crime victims receiving restitution of the right to pursue a claim pursuant to this section."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
