A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND ELIZABETH RAINEY OF CHARLESTON COUNTY FOR HER MANY YEARS OF DEDICATED COMMUNITY SERVICE.

Whereas, it is with great pleasure that the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives honor individuals who freely give of their time and resources for the good of others; and

Whereas, homemaker Elizabeth Rainey of Charleston County has contributed valuable community service to the citizens of the Palmetto State and is thereby worthy of praise and recognition; and

Whereas, Ms. Rainey believes strongly in active participation in community life, and she demonstrates that conviction through her longtime commitment to the Memminger School of Global Studies in North Charleston; and

Whereas, Elizabeth Rainey has been doing volunteer work at Memminger for more than a quarter century, and not just for a couple of hours a week. She's there every school day, all day long, arriving at seven o'clock in the morning and leaving around four o'clock in the afternoon; and

Whereas, starting her day in the cafeteria, she puts up utensils and trays and wipes down tables after breakfast, after which she heads off to help the kindergarten teachers. She cuts and traces, puts together homework packets, makes copies, and generally does whatever is needed; and

Whereas, Ms. Rainey doesn't stop her volunteering in the summertime. During the hottest months, she daily assists the school secretary. The entire school views her as a providential gift, a "Memminger Superstar," a "volunteer hero"; and

Whereas, in addition to her volunteer work at the school, Elizabeth Rainey does yard work for seniors in her neighborhood near the school and picks up trash along the streets; and

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives recognize that the success of the State of South Carolina, the strength of its communities, and the vitality of American society as a whole depend, in great measure, upon the dedication of individuals like Elizabeth Rainey who use their talents and resources to serve others. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and commend Elizabeth Rainey of Charleston County for her many years of dedicated community service.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Elizabeth Rainey.
