A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND THE LOWCOUNTRY SMALL BUSINESS HUB FOR ITS FINE WORK IN MICROENTERPRISE DEVELOPMENT IN THE SOUTH CAROLINA LOWCOUNTRY REGION.

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that the Lowcountry Small Business Hub, driven by a spirit of excellence and a strong desire to accomplish its worthy goals, continues to fulfill its mission of developing and supporting the growth of microenterprises in the South Carolina Lowcountry Region; and

Whereas, since its inception in 2008, the Lowcountry Small Business Hub (LSBH or the Hub) has provided critical business services, enabled by focusing on the creation and sponsorship of the Lowcountry Small Business Hub public-private partnership; and

Whereas, through its membership of more than fifty community, public, and private organizational partners, all of whom share the goal of bringing needed technologies, expertise, and meeting facilities to microenterprises and entrepreneurs, the Hub serves Beaufort, Colleton, Hampton, and Jasper counties and is funded through a grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development Organization, as well as through membership dues and sponsors; and

Whereas, according to Carl Schramm, president and CEO of the Kauffman Foundation, "Entrepreneurs will be the foundation of our nation's economic recovery because they start and grow businesses that create jobs." Adopting this philosophy, the LSBH provides resources, education, and coaching that sustain and grow the region's microenterpirses; and

Whereas, programs delivered through the Hub include professional shared space; conference/meeting room; office technology; training, educational programs, and seminars; expert business consultants and mentors; referral services; peer networking and group coaching; centrally located hub offices; help with business plans; financial planning for microenterprises; and access to a wide range of business resources and tools; and

Whereas, cognizant of the Lowcountry Small Business Hub's valuable contributions to the prosperity of the Lowcountry, the House of Representatives takes great pleasure in saluting the organization and in wishing its members well as they continue to carry out their critical mission. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and commend the Lowcountry Small Business Hub for its fine work in microenterprise development in the South Carolina Lowcountry region.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to the Lowcountry Small Business Hub.
