A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE THE CITY OF CAYCE AS A VITAL PART OF THE PALMETTO STATE AND TO DECLARE WEDNESDAY, MAY 14, 2014 AS "CITY OF CAYCE DAY" IN SOUTH CAROLINA.

Whereas, the City of Cayce is a place that approximately 13,000 residents and 700 businesses call home; and

Whereas, the Cayce Riverwalk has more than four miles of scenic walkways along the Congaree River and is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Midlands; and

Whereas, the Cayce Tennis and Fitness Center has hosted numerous state, local and national tournaments and was recently named the Facility of the Year by the United States Tennis Association; and

Whereas, many large companies, including SCANA Corporation, Amazon.com, CMC Steel and Nephron Pharmaceuticals, have all decided to locate in the City of Cayce; and

Whereas, the City of Cayce provides affordable amenities and a low cost of living for its residents; and

Whereas, the City of Cayce is home to many of the Midland's most popular public events such as the Congaree Bluegrass Festival, Christmas in Cayce, the Cayce Serves Tennis Tournament, and Tartan Day South; and

Whereas, the City of Cayce is the only full service city in Lexington County with its own animal shelter, wastewater treatment plant, water plant, museum, residential sanitation, recycling, leaf and limb pick up, police, and fire department; and

Whereas, the City of Cayce is led by a five-member city council including Mayor Elise Partin, the first female mayor elected in Cayce and one of the youngest mayors elected in the State of South Carolina at the age of thirty-nine; and

Whereas, 2014 marks an extraordinary year for the City of Cayce, as September 7, 2014 will mark the City's Centennial Celebration to celebrate one hundred years of prosperity in the City of Cayce. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, recognize the City of Cayce as a vital part of the Palmetto State and declare Wednesday, May 14, 2014 as "City of Cayce Day" in South Carolina.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mayor Elise Partin.
