A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO HONOR AND RECOGNIZE RILEY JOHNSON OF SENECA, SOUTH CAROLINA FOR HIS OUTSTANDING EFFORTS AS A MEMBER OF THE OFFICIATING CREW FOR THE 2018 ROSE BOWL.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are pleased to recognize Riley Johnson for serving as an alternate referee in the Rose Bowl between Georgia and Oklahoma on January 1, 2018 in Pasadena, California; and

Whereas, a long-time official for the Atlantic Coast Conference, Johnson can be found at various college football stadiums across the country during college football season. He also serves as Seneca's Events Coordinator; and

Whereas, during the Rose Bowl, Johnson achieved a lifelong dream by serving as the alternate referee for the nine-man officiating crew from the ACC, the first from the conference to work a playoff semifinal game. Johnson served as a self-described "backup quarterback" for the contest; and

Whereas, Johnson made it to the Rose Bowl for one of the most exciting Rose Bowl matchups of all time. In the first overtime affair in the 104-year history of the bowl, Georgia topped Oklahoma in double overtime by a final score of 54-48 to advance to the national championship; and

Whereas, a talented official, Johnson has also served in other notable games, including an Army-Navy game and the Sugar Bowl; and

Whereas, Riley Johnson has brought great pride and recognition to the State of South Carolina, and the Senate looks with great interest to hear of all further appearances and accomplishments by this passionate college football official. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, honor and recognize Riley Johnson of Seneca, South Carolina for his outstanding efforts as a member of the officiating crew for the 2018 Rose Bowl.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Riley Johnson.
