A bill

to amend the South Carolina Code of Laws by adding Section 44-1-320 so as to require the department of health and environmental control to establish voluntary minimum standards for mold remediation companies, to approve training courses and certifications for mold remediators, and to publish a list of certified mold remediators.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1.   Chapter 1, Title 44 of the S.C. Code is amended by adding:

Section 44-1-320. (A) The Department of Health and Environmental control shall promulgate regulations that establish voluntary minimum standards for mold remediation companies that operate in the State of South Carolina. The voluntary minimum standards must align with the general principles for mold remediation created by the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) as set forth in the most recent edition of ANSI/IICRC S520, Standard for Professional Mold Remediation.

   (B) The department shall approve preferred training courses and certifications for mold remediators operating in the State of South Carolina consistent with the voluntary minimum standards established by the department. Any mold remediator that takes and passes a preferred training course or obtains a preferred certification is eligible to appear on the department's list of certified mold remediators, which the department shall publish on its publicly available website.

SECTION 2.   This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
