A house RESOLUTION

TO DECLARE SATURDAY, APRIL 27, 2024, AS "AMERICAN LEGION FAMILY DAY."

Whereas, the founding fathers of the American Legion established their principles through the creation of the Four Pillars of the American Legion, which are Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation, National Security, Americanism, and Children & Youth; and

Whereas, the National Executive Committee of the American Legion passed Resolution 7, "American Legion Family Day," to be observed annually on the last Saturday of April; and

Whereas, the goal is to educate American Legion Family members and the community on the Legion's new initiative, Be the One, to bring awareness to veteran suicide and destigmatize the courageous decision to seek mental health; and

Whereas, the American Legion, through resolve, has urged all members of the American Legion, the American Legion Auxiliary, the American Legion Riders, and the Sons of the American Legion, known collectively as the American Legion Family, to open their post home doors annually on the last Saturday of the month of April to observe "American Legion Family Day," with an emphasis on Be the One; and

Whereas, the members of the American Legion Family continue to remain steadfast in their commitment to the Legion's founding principles in meeting the ever-expanding needs of their local communities throughout the nation; and

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to add its collective voice in support of the American Legion's new initiative, Be the One, and to wish it every success. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, declare Saturday, April 27, 2024, as "American Legion Family Day."
