AN ACT TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 59-111-60 SO AS TO PROHIBIT FREE TUITION FOR A MEMBER OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF A STATE SUPPORTED POST-SECONDARY EDUCATION INSTITUTION OR MEMBER OF HIS IMMEDIATE FAMILY AND TO PROVIDE EXCEPTIONS.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
Free tuition for board of trustees members prohibited
SECTION 1. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:
"Section 59-111-60. (A) No person who is a member of the board of trustees or other governing body of a state institution as defined in Section 59-112-10 or member of his immediate family may receive a scholarship, free tuition, or other financial assistance except as provided in subsection (B).
`Immediate family' includes the spouse, natural or adoptive child, stepchild, or legal dependent.
(B) Nothing in subsection (A) prohibits a person from obtaining a scholarship, free tuition, or other financial assistance based on criteria applicable to all persons eligible for scholarships, free tuition, or other financial assistance."

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
