A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

EXPRESSING THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO COMMISSIONER A. CRAWFORD CLARKSON, JR., OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA TAX COMMISSION, ON HIS APPOINTMENT AS CHAIRMAN OF THE TAX COMMISSION BEGINNING IN JANUARY, 1992.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly were delighted to note that the Honorable A. Crawford Clarkson, Jr., first appointed to the South Carolina Tax Commission in 1987, has been appointed chairman of the commission by Governor Campbell effective January 16, 1992; and

Whereas, Mr. Clarkson has brought to the commission a distinguished record of service in the field of accounting as both a certified public accountant and a lawyer; and

Whereas, his interest in and devotion to the efficient administration of tax laws saw his service in 1957 and 1958 as a member of the Joint Legislative Corporate Tax Study Committee and from 1958 through 1966 as a member and executive secretary of the South Carolina Tax Study Commission; and

Whereas, in these two vital positions he worked as a draftsman of tax revision legislation concerning the taxation of multistate businesses and worked closely with the General Assembly and its committees on all matters relating to the modernization and improved administration of the state's revenue laws; and

Whereas, it is appropriate for the members of the General Assembly to pause in their deliberations so that they might congratulate Mr. Clarkson upon his assuming the duties of Chairman of the South Carolina Tax Commission and wishing for him a successful career heading this vital state agency. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly express congratulations to Commissioner A. Crawford Clarkson, Jr., of the South Carolina Tax Commission, on his appointment as Chairman of the Tax Commission beginning in January, 1992.
