A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO EXTEND THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO THE FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS AND ADMIRERS OF JAMES R. BURROWS OF SUMTER WHO DIED WEDNESDAY, MARCH 4, 1992.

Whereas, James R. Burrows of Sumter died Wednesday, March 4, 1992; and

Whereas, born in Sumter County, he was a son of the late Stanyarne and Julia Richardson Burrows. A World War II Army veteran and a graduate of Clemson A&M College, Mr. Burrows was a retired farmer; and

Whereas, Mr. Burrows was awarded the first Sumter County Young Farmer Award in 1956 and was on the board of directors of the Farmers Telephone Cooperative and the State Peanut and Beef Board; and

Whereas, a former director of the Sumter County Farm Bureau, he was a former trustee of Thomas Sumter Academy, a former director of the Peanut Growers Commodity Market Association, and a member of VFW Post 3034, Dalzell American Legion Post 175 and Providence Southern Methodist Church; and

Whereas, known to many in the community as "Mr. James," his contributions to the agricultural profession will be noted for many years to come; and

Whereas, Mr. Burrows demonstrated the importance of diversity on the farm. Triple C Farms is an excellent example of a well-balanced agricultural portfolio. A large commercial cattle operation was incorporated with his row crops maximizing labor, land, and equipment; and

Whereas, Triple C Farms is a family farm in the strictest definition. The majority of his eight children are involved with the farm operation. Mr. Burrows took great pride in this fact; and

Whereas, surviving are his wife, Virginia R. Burrows; daughters, Kathy Dennis of Leesville and Doris Anne Butler of Sumter; sons, Jimmy, Billy, Sammy, Clark, Stan, and Rey Burrows, all of Sumter; sisters, Julia Burrus of Orange, Virginia, Trudy Brown of Laurens, and Sarah Dawson of Sumter; brothers, Stanyarne Burrows of Chattanooga, Tennessee, and Edward Burrows of Greensboro, North Carolina; and eleven grandchildren. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly extend their deepest sympathy to the family and many friends and admirers of James R. Burrows of Sumter who died Wednesday, March 4, 1992.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Burrows family.
