A BILL

TO AMEND SECTION 27-37-20, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO THE INSTITUTION OF EJECTMENT PROCEEDINGS BY A LANDLORD, SO AS TO PROVIDE AN ADDITIONAL METHOD OF SERVICE OF THE RULE UPON THE TENANT.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. Section 27-37-20 of the 1976 Code is amended to read:

"Section 27-37-20. Any A tenant may be ejected in the following manner, to wit: Upon upon application by the landlord or his agent or attorney any to a magistrate having jurisdiction after the magistrate shall issue issues a written rule requiring the tenant forthwith to vacate the premises occupied by him immediately or to appear before the magistrate to show cause why he should not be ejected. before the magistrate On the rule to show cause, the tenant shall appear before the magistrate within ten days after service of a copy of such the rule upon the tenant. The rule may be served by posting a copy on the door of the premises occupied by the tenant and referred to in the rule."

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
