TO COMMEND D COMPANY, 8TH TANK BATTALION, U. S. MARINE CORPS RESERVE, OF RICHLAND COUNTY, ON ITS HEROIC EFFORT IN ASSISTING THE VICTIMS OF AN AUTOMOBILE ACCIDENT ON A STRETCH OF VIRGINIA INTERSTATE ON JULY 6, 1990.
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly have learned that members of D Company, 8th Tank Battalion, U. S. Marine Corps Reserve performed heroic service in assisting the victims of an automobile accident on a stretch of Virginia Interstate on July 6, 1990; and
Whereas, this company, commanded by Major H. L. Fritz, and ably assisted by Captain Robert L. Beveridge, Sergeant Major (Select) J. C. Harlowe, and others literally took charge of the accident scene providing emergency medical care, taking charge of the traffic flow, keeping the inevitable gawkers from clogging the area, creating a traffic path for the ambulance, and providing assistance and keeping order until the state troopers arrived; and
Whereas, this commendable action was witnessed by Mr. Ron Dees, an accident victim, who attributes the Marines' action with saving his life. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly commend D Company, 8th Tank Battalion, U. S. Marine Corps Reserve, of Richland County, on its heroic effort in assisting the victims of an automobile accident on a stretch of Virginia Interstate on July 6, 1990.
Be it further resolved that copies of this resolution be forwarded to Commanding Officer, Major H. L. Fritz, Captain Robert L. Beveridge, and Sergeant Major (Select) J. C. Harlowe, D Company, 8th Tank Battalion, U. S. Marine Corp. Reserve, 513 Pickens Street, Columbia, South Carolina 29201-4198, and Mr. Ron Dees, 740 Ellis Street, North Augusta, South Carolina 29841..
