TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 56-3-195 SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT THE DEPARTMENT MAY INSPECT FOREIGN VEHICLES ACCOMPANIED BY A MANUFACTURER'S STATEMENT OF ORIGIN BEFORE REGISTRATION AND LICENSURE TO DETERMINE WHETHER A VEHICLE MEETS THE DEPARTMENT'S STANDARDS.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:
"Section 56-3-195. The department may inspect a foreign vehicle accompanied by a manufacturer's statement of origin to determine whether the vehicle meets the department's standards for registration and licensure. A foreign vehicle accompanied by a manufacturer's statement of origin that indicates the vehicle was not manufactured for use on public streets, roads, or highways must be inspected by the department before registration and licensure to determine whether appropriate modifications were made. The department may specify the modifications required for the vehicle before registration and licensure."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
