TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 59-19-35 SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT NO PERSON WHO IS EMPLOYED BY A SCHOOL DISTRICT OF THIS STATE MAY SERVE AS A MEMBER OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THAT SCHOOL DISTRICT, AND TO PROVIDE THAT ANY PERSON SERVING AS A MEMBER OF A SCHOOL BOARD OF TRUSTEES ON THE EFFECTIVE DATE OF THIS SECTION WHO IS ALSO EMPLOYED BY THAT SCHOOL DISTRICT MAY CONTINUE TO SERVE THE TERM FOR WHICH HE WAS ELECTED.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:
"Section 59-19-35. No person who is employed by a school district of this State may serve as a member of the board of trustees of that school district. Any person serving as a member of a school board of trustees on the effective date of this section who is also employed by that school district may continue to serve the term for which he was elected.
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
