A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

CONGRATULATING MS. LORRI L. SHEALY OF LEXINGTON COUNTY ON BEING CHOSEN THE "J. WILL PLESS INTERNATIONAL GRADUATE OF THE YEAR" FOR 1993 BY THE INTERNATIONAL LEGAL FRATERNITY PHI DELTA PHI.

Whereas, Ms. Lorri L. Shealy of Lexington County is receiving a juris doctor degree from the University of South Carolina of Law in May, 1993; and

Whereas, the Court of Appeals of the international legal fraternity Phi Delta Phi has chosen her as the 1993 "J. Will Pless International Graduate of the Year"; and

Whereas, Ms. Shealy is the daughter of former Senator Ryan Shealy, our dear friend and distinguished former colleague in the General Assembly; and

Whereas, Ms. Shealy first won regionally in the J. Will Pless Graduate of the Year competition and then was selected as the overall winner internationally -- an extremely high honor which reflects most favorably not only upon herself but also upon the University of South Carolina School of Law, where she has spent the past three years preparing for a career in law; and

Whereas, she has been a truly outstanding law student and serves as the editor-in-chief of the American Bar Association Real Property, Probate and Trust Journal, and she was also recently named winner of the Compleat Lawyer Award, the law school's top honor; and

Whereas, she won numerous academic awards as a college student and has also competed in the Miss South Carolina Scholarship Pageant, where she finished in the Top Ten; and

Whereas, Lorri Shealy is not only brilliant in the academic sphere -- for which she is widely admired and praised -- but, she is also a caring and generous human being of deeply-rooted family values and impeccably high standards; and

Whereas, we know that her father and mother are very, very proud of her, as are her sisters, her brother, her friends, her classmates, her professors, and, indeed, all South Carolinians, and we are pleased to have this opportunity to accord her the special recognition which she has so greatly merited. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulates Ms. Lorri L. Shealy of Lexington County on being chosen the "J. Will Pless International Graduate of the Year" for 1993 by the international legal fraternity Phi Delta Phi.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Ms. Shealy and to Senator and Mrs. Ryan Shealy.
