A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE MRS. DOROTHY TURNER OF WEST COLUMBIA, A TEACHER AT THE WIL LOU GRAY OPPORTUNITY SCHOOL, FOR AN EXEMPLARY FIFTY-YEAR CAREER IN EDUCATION AND TO WISH HER CONTINUED SUCCESS AS ONE OF SOUTH CAROLINA'S MOST OUTSTANDING TEACHERS.

Whereas, members of the General Assembly with pleasure have learned that Mrs. Dorothy Turner of West Columbia will complete her fiftieth year of teaching this year, forty-five of which have been in South Carolina; and

Whereas, Mrs. Turner is a business education teacher at the Wil Lou Gray Opportunity School, where she has taught since 1960 after having been previously associated with public school systems in South Carolina and Georgia; and

Whereas, she completed her preparatory education in Hemingway, received an associate degree from Emmanuel College in Franklin Springs, Georgia, in 1942, received a B. A. degree from Piedmont College in Demorest, Georgia, in 1947, and has completed graduate work at the University of South Carolina in several areas; and

Whereas, her tenure at Wil Lou Gray has been characterized by achievement and versatility. She has taught classes in many disciplines, including office occupations, English, math, accounting, typing and shorthand, and has also taught in the APL Experimental Program for Adults; and

Whereas, Mrs. Turner is also blessed with a devoted husband, Maurice R. Turner, a son, Maurice R. "Reese" Turner, Jr., and is now also a grandmother of three; and

Whereas, her contributions to her students, family, school, and church have earned her the justifiable affection and respect of all those with whom she has worked or served; and

Whereas, members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, would like to publicly recognize and congratulate this truly gifted teacher and lovely lady on the anniversary of her fiftieth year in education and wish to her continued success in all her future endeavors. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly hereby congratulate Mrs. Dorothy Turner of West Columbia, a teacher at the Wil Lou Gray Opportunity School, for an exemplary fifty-year career in education and wish her continued success as one of South Carolina's most outstanding teachers.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Dorothy Turner.
