CONGRATULATING MR. WILLIAM SAUNDERS, PRESIDENT AND GENERAL MANAGER OF WPAL IN CHARLESTON, SOUTH CAROLINA, FOR BEING INDUCTED INTO THE SOUTH CAROLINA BROADCASTER'S ASSOCIATION HALL OF FAME.
Whereas, members of the General Assembly were delighted to learn that Mr. William Saunders, President and General Manager of WPAL in Charleston, South Carolina, was honored by being the first African-American elected into the South Carolina Broadcaster's Association Hall of Fame; and
Whereas, Mr. William Saunders served as the thirty-seventh President of the Association in 1988-89, as Director-at-Large in 1982 and 1990, and as Vice-President of Radio of the South Carolina Broadcaster's Association in 1986; and
Whereas, he has served as Chairman of the Association's Television and Radio Political Action Committee (TARPAC) and Hall of Fame Committee and has served as the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Legislative Liaison member from 1987 through 1992; and
Whereas, Mr. Saunders, as President and General Manager of WPAL in Charleston, has made significant contributions to the broadcasting industry and to his community; and
Whereas, in 1970, Mr. Saunders helped establish the Committee on Better Racial Assurance (COBRA) and received the prestigious Malcolm D. Haven Award in 1989 for his activities with COBRA and numerous other community organizations; and
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are pleased to have this opportunity to recognize the illustrious career and outstanding achievements of this distinguished South Carolinian and congratulate him on his most recent honor. Now therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly congratulate Mr. William Saunders, President and General Manager of WPAL in Charleston, South Carolina, upon being inducted into the South Carolina Broadcaster's Association Hall of Fame and to recognize his continuing service to his community.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. William Saunders.
