AN ACT TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 20-7-1555 SO AS TO ABOLISH THE "TENDER YEARS DOCTRINE" REGARDING THE PREFERENCE FOR AWARDING CUSTODY TO A MOTHER OF A CHILD OF TENDER YEARS.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
"Tender Years Doctrine" abolished
SECTION 1. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:
"Section 20-7-1555. The `Tender Years Doctrine' in which there is a preference for awarding a mother custody of a child of tender years is abolished."
Time effective
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
