TO CONGRATULATE AND COMMEND MISS ELIZABETH SINCLAIR OF RICHLAND COUNTY ON THE RECENT CELEBRATION OF HER ONE HUNDRED AND THIRD BIRTHDAY AND TO RECOGNIZE HER MANY ACHIEVEMENTS.
Whereas, it has come to the attention of the members of the General Assembly that Miss Elizabeth Sinclair of Richland County celebrated her one hundred and third birthday on January 16 of this year; and
Whereas, Miss Sinclair started her education at Howard School which she attended through the eighth grade; and
Whereas, from there she attended Benedict College where she received the LI degree in 1911 and by diligent work at summer school she received a BA degree at Benedict in 1945; and
Whereas, Miss Sinclair began her teaching career at Waverly School in 1915; and
Whereas, when the old Waverly School was closed she moved to Leevy School, named for Mr. I. S. Leevy; and
Whereas, when Leevy School was closed, she was assigned to Ridgewood Elementary School which was her last teaching assignment before retirement in 1958; and
Whereas, upon retirement at the age of sixty-seven, she departed Columbia to join her sister in Philadelphia working then with the Women's Christian Alliance; and
Whereas, Miss Sinclair now resides in Columbia with a cousin, Mrs. Rosalind Gaulman and family; and
Whereas, Miss Sinclair is a most interesting person with whom to talk about various and numerous things, particularly considering her longevity; and
Whereas, Miss Sinclair has touched the lives of numerous individuals without seeking publicity about her many accomplishments. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly congratulate and commend Miss Elizabeth Sinclair of Richland County on the recent celebration of her one hundred and third birthday and to recognize her many achievements.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Miss Elizabeth Sinclair at 2560 Gervais Street, Columbia, South Carolina 29204.
