SALUTING THE HONORABLE WILLIAM W. WALKER, FORMER MEMBER OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES FROM CHARLESTON COUNTY, FOR HIS MANY YEARS OF OUTSTANDING AND DEDICATED PUBLIC SERVICE TO THE CITIZENS OF CHARLESTON COUNTY AND OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA.
Whereas, William W. Walker of Charleston County served with great distinction three terms in the South Carolina House of Representatives from 1939-45; and
Whereas, he is a former member of Charleston County Council, which he was instrumental in establishing, and served as the council's first chairman; and
Whereas, this successful North Charleston businessman spent many years working to improve government at the local level, as well as state level; and
Whereas, he was elected the first chairman of the Founders Board of the Baptist College at Charleston; he played a key role in obtaining the Armory building in North Charleston by working to have Charleston County furnish the site to the State and persuaded the Adjutant General to erect a building in the area; he served as chairman of the Special Library Committee which developed plans for the county's new library building on Marion Square in Charleston; and he was instrumental in planning and working out financing for the Charleston County T.B. Hospital; and
Whereas, he has devoted his life to public service and has earned the admiration and won the praise of all who have known him; and
Whereas, he turns eighty years "young" this spring -- a wonderful milestone -- and is blessed in that he is surrounded by a loving and adoring family; and
Whereas, Charleston County and the State of South Carolina are fortunate to have had such a superb public servant in William W. Walker, and the General Assembly takes great pleasure in according him recognition. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:
That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, salutes the Honorable William W. Walker, former member of the House of Representatives from Charleston County, for his many years of outstanding and dedicated public service to the citizens of Charleston County and of the State of South Carolina.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Honorable William W. Walker.
