A BILL

TO AMEND ARTICLE 1, CHAPTER 9, TITLE 11, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, SO AS TO REQUIRE THAT EXPENDITURES FOR ADVERTISEMENT BY A COUNTY, MUNICIPALITY, THE STATE, OR ANY POLITICAL SUBDIVISION OR AGENCY OF THE STATE SHALL DISCLOSE THE COST AND SPONSOR OF THE ADVERTISEMENT.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. Article 1, Chapter 9, Title 11 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 11-9-150. (A) Any advertisement made on behalf of the State, or any political subdivision or agency of the State, a county, municipality, public service district, or school district shall, as a part of the advertisement, disclose the unit cost charged by the media for carrying the advertisement and the identity of the entity, agency, or individual responsible for the payment of the cost.

(B) The provisions of this section shall be applicable to any printed, televised, or radio broadcasted advertisement made on behalf of a county, municipality, the State, or any political subdivision or agency of the State."

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
