A BILL

TO AMEND SECTION 12-37-220, AS AMENDED, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO PROPERTY TAX EXEMPTIONS, SO AS TO EXTEND THE EXEMPTION FOR THE DWELLING OF A VETERAN WHO IS PERMANENTLY AND TOTALLY DISABLED FROM A SERVICE CONNECTED DISABILITY TO THE YEAR THE VETERAN ACQUIRES OWNERSHIP OF THE PROPERTY.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. Section 12-37-220B(1) of the 1976 Code, as last amended by Section 200, Act 181 of 1993, is further amended by adding at the end:

"The exemption allowed pursuant to this item applies beginning with the entire property tax year in which the veteran qualifying for the exemption acquired the property."

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
