A BILL

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 17-5-160 SO AS TO REQUIRE THE COUNTY CORONER TO NOTIFY THE NEXT OF KIN AND REMOVE THE DEAD BODY OF AN INDIGENT PERSON WHO DIED IN THE HOSPITAL.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 17-5-160. Following the hospital death of a person who received indigent care, the county coroner or the coroner's deputy shall notify the decedent's next of kin and shall remove the dead body in accordance with Section 17-5-130."

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
