A BILL

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 8-13-703, SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT AN INDIVIDUAL EMPLOYED BY THE STATE, ITS AGENCIES, OR ANY OF ITS AFFILIATES WHO HAS DIRECTLY PARTICIPATED IN THE NEGOTIATION, SALE, OR APPROVAL OF STATE ASSETS IS PROHIBITED FROM PERSONALLY BENEFITING FROM SUCH TRANSACTION OR ACCEPTING A POSITION WITH THE ENTITY OR ENTITIES WHO PURCHASED OR LEASED SUCH STATE ASSETS.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 8-13-703. An individual employed by the State, its agencies, or any of its affiliates, who has directly participated in the negotiation or approval of any sale or lease of state assets is prohibited from personally benefiting from such transaction. Furthermore, this individual is prohibited from accepting any position with or remuneration from the entity or entities purchasing or leasing such assets, or any party related to them."

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
