A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE ARTHUR M. BJONTEGARD, JR., FOR A LIFE OF SELFLESS DEVOTION TO HELPING OTHERS, ESPECIALLY THE SENIOR CITIZENS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, AND TO WISH MR. BJONTEGARD EVERY HAPPINESS IN THE YEARS TO COME.

Whereas, Mr. Arthur M. Bjontegard was born on March 23, 1938, in Lynn, Massachusetts; and

Whereas, Mr. Bjontegard was married to the former Wilma Golding, and has two children, Arthur Martin Bjontegard, III, and Karla Kristin Bjontegard; and

Whereas, Mr. Bjontegard graduated from Duke University and then earned his Juris Doctorate from The University of Virginia Law School; and

Whereas, Mr. Bjontegard extended his education even further, and was graduated from Stonier Graduate School of Banking in Rutgers, New Jersey and from The Advanced Management Program at Harvard's Business School; and

Whereas, Mr. Bjontegard has given unselfishly to countless organizations and currently participates in numerous civic and professional activities; and

Whereas, Mr. Bjontegard is a former director of The Columbia Urban League and a former president of the United Way of South Carolina; and

Whereas, Mr. Bjontegard is the President of Independent Colleges and Universities of South Carolina, Inc.; and

Whereas, Mr. Bjontegard is the State Executive Director for the Foundation of Independent Higher Education, Director of the Federation of the Blind, and Chairman and Director of the Capital Senior Center; and

Whereas, Mr. Bjontegard has won several prestigious awards, including being recognized as Man of the Year in 1984, by the Columbia Urban League, and being awarded the prestigious Order of the Palmetto in 1992; and

Whereas, Mr. Bjontegard is also honored by having a scholarship in his name for a South Carolina student studying gerontology or a related field; and

Whereas, it is through the tireless efforts of Mr. Bjontegard that the Capital Senior Citizen Center is the monumental success that it is; and

Whereas, Mr. Bjontegard was instrumental in coordinating and assembling the groups necessary in order for the Capital Senior Center to become a reality; and

Whereas, Mr. Bjontegard's selfless dedication to the community is indeed a rarity and the General Assembly of South Carolina would like to publicly thank him for all he has done and to acknowledge that Mr. Bjontegard has reflected well upon the people of South Carolina. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly recognize Mr. Arthur M. Bjontegard Jr., for his efforts, devotion and dedication to the prosperity and well-being of the people of South Carolina and wish him the very best of what life has to offer.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Arthur M. Bjontegard, Jr.
