TO CONGRATULATE THE UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA ALUMNI ASSOCIATION FOR 150 YEARS OF SERVICE TO THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA AND TO ALUMNI FRIENDS, FACULTY, STAFF AND STUDENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA.
Whereas, the University of South Carolina (USC) Alumni Association can trace its roots back to 1846 when University graduates met after commencement and agreed to establish a series of reunion dinners; and
Whereas, the USC Alumni Association has tended and nurtured an alumni body which has grown from a few to more than 175,000 through the years; and
Whereas, the USC Alumni Association is chartered to provide aid, assistance and counsel to the University and the cause of education in South Carolina; and
Whereas, today the USC Alumni Association serves more than 175,000 living alumni across the country and around the world and has 55 alumni clubs in 22 states and the District of Columbia and provides programming to people of all ages and interests; and
Whereas, since 1978 the Alumni Scholarship program has awarded more than 1,000 scholarships worth more than $3,300,000 to attract the best and brightest student leaders to the University of South Carolina and the State of South Carolina; and
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, would like to publicly recognize and congratulate this truly fine organization for its 150 years of service to the University and the State. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly hereby congratulate and commend the University of South Carolina Alumni Association for 150 years of service to the State of South Carolina, the University of South Carolina, and to her alumni and friends the world over.
