TO CONGRATULATE UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA HEAD BASEBALL COACH JUNE RAINES ON HIS OUTSTANDING TWENTY-YEAR CAREER AS THE GAMECOCK'S HEAD COACH AND TO WISH HIM THE VERY BEST IN HIS NEW POSITION WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT.
Whereas, Coach June Raines recently announced his resignation as the University of South Carolina's head baseball coach which ends his extraordinary thirty-nine year baseball career; and
Whereas, Coach Raines' twenty-year tenure at the helm of South Carolina's baseball program began in 1977; and
Whereas, June Raines replaced Bobby Richardson in 1977 and in a remarkable year led the Gamecocks into the 1977 National Championship which the Gamecocks lost 2-1 to Arizona State; and
Whereas, he is the Gamecocks' longest, winningest coach with a record of 763 victories, 380 losses and 2 ties and took USC to the College World Series four times from 1977 to 1985; and
Whereas, June Raines has always represented USC honorably and is a walking ambassador for Carolina; he has touched many lives in his twenty seasons and his contributions have earned him the justifiable affection and respect of all those with whom he has come in contact; and
Whereas, the members of the Senate and the citizens of South Carolina are proud of the role Coach June Raines has played in raising the profile of the University of South Carolina in baseball and wish him the very best in his new position with the University. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the Senate of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and thank Coach June Raines for his outstanding twenty-year career as Head Coach of the University of South Carolina's Baseball Team and wish him the very best in his new position with the University of South Carolina Athletic Department.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Coach June Raines.
