A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

COMMENDING BOBBY TURNER, AN EMPLOYEE OF SANTEE ELECTRIC COOPERATIVE FOR HIS HEROISM WHICH SAVED THE LIFE OF ANOTHER HUMAN BEING ON CHRISTMAS EVE.

Whereas, at 11:30 P.M. on the night of December 24, 1994, Bobby Turner, an employee of Santee Electric Cooperative, was on his way home when he came upon a house engulfed in flames; and

Whereas, Mr. Turner, knowing that a wheelchair-bound person lived there, immediately stopped to see whether anyone might be trapped inside; after running around the house and yelling, he heard someone calling for help; when he opened the door, he was pushed away by the heat and the flames; and

Whereas, Mr. Turner stepped back, took a deep breath, and ran into the house; just as he entered, he stumbled over a man lying on the floor; Mr. Turner dragged the man out onto the porch; and

Whereas, once Mr. Turner caught his breath, he asked the man whether anyone else was inside; the man said that there was not; and so Mr. Turner made sure the man was safe and went to call the fire department; and

Whereas, Bobby Turner's courage and quick-thinking saved the day and averted a near-tragedy; and

Whereas, his actions were those of a true hero, and he is highly deserving of recognition and commendation. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commends Bobby Turner, an employee of Santee Electric Cooperative, for his heroism which saved the life of another human being on Christmas Eve.

Be it further resolved that this resolution be presented to Mr. Bobby Turner and that copies of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Benton Blakely; Mr. Ed Whetsell, Vice President of Santee Electric Cooperative; and Mr. Fred Cole, Executive Director of the South Carolina Electric Cooperatives Association.
