A BILL

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 14-3-455 SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT THE SUPREME COURT BY RULE SHALL ESTABLISH WITHIN THE JUDICIAL DEPARTMENT A CENTRALIZED DATA BASE WHERE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL PUBLIC MAY OBTAIN INFORMATION WHICH IS AVAILABLE TO THE PUBLIC CONCERNING GRIEVANCES OR DISCIPLINARY ACTIONS TAKEN AGAINST ANY JUDGE OF A COURT OF THIS STATE OR ANY ATTORNEY AT LAW LICENSED TO PRACTICE IN THIS STATE.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 14-3-455. The Supreme Court by rule shall establish within the Judicial Department a centralized data base where members of the general public may obtain information which is available to the public concerning grievances or disciplinary actions taken against any judge of a court of this State or an attorney at law licensed to practice in this State."

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
