A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO REQUEST THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TO NAME SOUTH CAROLINA HIGHWAY 555 IN RICHLAND COUNTY IN HONOR OF KAY PATTERSON.

Whereas, Kay Patterson served in the South Carolina House of Representatives from 1975 to 1985; and

Whereas, Senator Patterson has served in the South Carolina Senate continuously since 1985; and

Whereas, Kay obtained his undergraduate degree from Allen University; and

Whereas, he received a Masters Degree in Education from South Carolina State University; and

Whereas, Kay served as a social studies instructor at W. A. Perry Middle School in Richland County for many years; and

Whereas, he is a former University of South Carolina Trustee; and

Whereas, Kay served his country with distinction as an officer in the United States Marine Corps from 1951 to 1953; and

Whereas, he is a member of numerous religious and civic organizations that are meeting the needs of the citizens of Richland County and the State of South Carolina; and

Whereas, it is fitting and proper that South Carolina Highway 555 in Richland County be designated and named the "Kay Patterson Highway" as a lasting tribute to this distinguished South Carolinian. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly request the Department of Transportation to designate and name South Carolina Highway 555 in Richland County described above in this resolution as the "Kay Patterson Highway" and to install appropriate markers or signs at places along the highway as the department considers advisable containing the words "Kay Patterson Highway".

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Department of Transportation and The Honorable Kay Patterson.
