A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

CONGRATULATING THE ST. JOHNS HIGH SCHOOL VARSITY BASEBALL TEAM OF DARLINGTON COUNTY ON WINNING THE 1995 CLASS AAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

Whereas, the varsity baseball team of St. Johns High School of Darlington County has won the 1995 Class AAA state championship; and

Whereas, St. Johns beat Dutch Fork High School in the state title series for Class AAA; and

Whereas, the winning pitcher for the Blue Devils of St. Johns in the first game against Dutch Fork was Chris Spivey, a senior, who posted a 4-3 win, and the Devils' winning pitcher in the second and last game against Dutch Fork was Julius Dixon, a freshman, who posted a 5-1 victory; and

Whereas, St. Johns 1995 overall record was a stellar twenty-five wins against only five losses; and

Whereas, the Devils' Head Coach is Rick Drawdy and the team's assistant coaches are Jimmy Harrell and Danny Williamson; and

Whereas, the Devils completed a tribute season to their former teammate Trey Dodson, who died in an automobile accident last winter; Trey was with his team in spirit throughout the 1995 campaign and especially during the playoffs; and

Whereas, the victorious success of this 1995 St. Johns team was the team's way of saying farewell to St. Johns High School forever, because next year St. Johns will merge with Mayo High School to form the new Darlington High School; as stated by Coach Drawdy, the state crown was a terrific way to finish the season and look forward to the new school; and

Whereas, the Blue Devils success in 1995 is highly deserving of recognition. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulates the St. Johns High School varsity baseball team of Darlington County on winning the 1995 Class AAA state championship.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the varsity baseball team of St. Johns High School, in care of Head Coach Rick Drawdy.
