TO CONGRATULATE HIS EXCELLENCY TENG HUI LEE, PRESIDENT OF TAIWAN, REPUBLIC OF CHINA, UPON HIS UPCOMING INAUGURATION ON MAY 20, 1996, WHICH MARKS THE FIRST INAUGURATION OF A FREELY ELECTED PRESIDENT OF TAIWAN.
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly congratulate his Excellency Teng Hui Lee, President of Taiwan, Republic of China, upon his upcoming inauguration on May 20, 1996, which marks the first inauguration of a freely elected president of Taiwan; and
Whereas, President Lee and his great country are to be commended for carrying on the tradition of democracy, and our State extends to him hardiest congratulations upon this special day in the lives of the people of Taiwan; and
Whereas, a close bond has always existed between our two countries and the inauguration of President Lee as the first freely elected President of Taiwan further solidifies the special relationship that has existed through the years between the United States and Taiwan. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly hereby congratulate his Excellency Teng Hui Lee, President of Taiwan, Republic of China, upon his upcoming inauguration on May 20, 1996, which marks the first inauguration of a freely elected president of Taiwan.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Honorable Robert C. J. Chen, Sumter, South Carolina, the Honorable Robert V. Royall, Secretary of Commerce, the Honorable David M. Beasley, Governor, State of South Carolina, and his Excellency Teng Hui Lee, President of the Republic of China.
