TO CREATE THE REGISTRATION AND ELECTIONS COMMISSION FOR SALUDA COUNTY AND TO ABOLISH THE SALUDA COUNTY ELECTION COMMISSION AND THE BOARD OF REGISTRATION OF SALUDA COUNTY AND DEVOLVE THEIR POWERS AND DUTIES UPON THE REGISTRATION AND ELECTIONS COMMISSION.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. (A) There is created the Registration and Elections Commission for Saluda County. There are seven members of the commission who must be appointed by the Governor upon recommendation of a majority of the Saluda County Legislative Delegation, including the senator. The members must be appointed for terms of four years and until their successors are appointed and qualify, except that initially in order to stagger their terms, three members must be appointed for two-year terms.
(B) Vacancies on the commission must be filled by appointment in the manner of original appointment for the unexpired terms only.
(C) The members of the commission shall receive that compensation as may be appropriated by the Saluda County Council.
SECTION 2. The Registration and Elections Commission of Saluda County may employ those employees as are authorized by the Saluda County Council.
SECTION 3. The Saluda County Election Commission and the Registration Board for Saluda County are abolished. The powers and duties of the Commissioners of Election and the Registration Board are devolved upon the commission created in Section 1.
SECTION 4. On the effective date of this act, the terms of the then present members of the Saluda County Election Commission and the Board of Registration for Saluda County expire and the members of the Registration and Elections Commission for Saluda County appointed in the manner provided in Section 1 of this act shall take office.
SECTION 5. This act takes effect ninety days after approval by the Governor.
