TO EXPRESS THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SENATE TO THE FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS OF S.E. (GENE) RICHARDSON OF AIKEN WHO DIED WEDNESDAY, MAY 3, 1995.
Whereas, Gene Richardson of Aiken died Wednesday, May 3, 1995; and
Whereas, Mr. Richardson completed his basic military training at Fort Blanding, Florida on V-E Day, 1945, and served honorably in the Armed Services for twenty-three years. He served in Germany and had the duty to escort prisoners to the Nuremberg War Crimes trials. By 1948, he was at Eniwetok for the testing of atomic weapons at the Pacific Proving Ground. Most of his military career was spent at Fort Gordon where he met his wife, Rosalyn Durden; and
Whereas, military retirement was just the beginning of a new career for Mr. Richardson who went to work at Gracewood State School and Hospital near Augusta; and
Whereas, he is remembered for his eighteen years' service as a Dixie Youth baseball coach in the Valley Recreation Association. He served on the board of the Aiken Council on Aging and was a faithful volunteer in the Meals on Wheels program; and
Whereas, Mr. Richardson was a member of the Langley United Methodist Church and the Lillian Mitchell Sunday School class. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the Senate express their deepest sympathy to the family and many friends of Mr. S.E. (Gene) Richardson of Aiken who died Wednesday, May 3, 1995.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the family of Mr. S.E. (Gene) Richardson.
