SALUTING ROBERT ABLE SMITH, GENERAL MANAGER OF EDISTO ELECTRIC COOPERATIVE IN BAMBERG, FOR HIS MANY YEARS OF OUTSTANDING AND DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE CO-OP AND THE PEOPLE OF SOUTH CAROLINA AND WISHING HIM HAPPINESS FOLLOWING HIS RETIREMENT.
Whereas, Robert Able Smith has served as General Manager of Edisto Electric Cooperative in Bamberg since 1965; and
Whereas, Mr. Smith has also worked as Consulting Engineer with McCall-Thomas Engineering Company in Orangeburg (1958-63) and as Engineer and Administrative Assistant with Aiken Electric Cooperative (1963-65); and
Whereas, he graduated from Furman University with a BA degree in Business Administration and earned a BS degree in Electrical Engineering from Clemson University; and
Whereas, he served in the United States Army from 1953-55; he is a member of First Baptist Church of Bamberg, where he has served as Deacon, taught Sunday School, and has served on numerous committees; he previously served on Bamberg City Council and was recently reelected to a fifth term on Bamberg County Council; he is a board member of Central Electric Power Cooperative, Inc., and also a board member of The Electric Cooperatives of South Carolina, Inc.; and he has been very actively involved in numerous civic organizations and endeavors for many years, giving freely and generously of his time, talents, and resources; and
Whereas, after thirty-two years of energetic and dedicated service as General Manager of Edisto Electric Cooperative, Robert Able Smith is retiring from that position this year; he is known and recognized for his vision and leadership and is admired by all who know him; and we are delighted to have this opportunity to recognize him in a special way. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, salutes Robert Able Smith, General Manager of Edisto Electric Cooperative in Bamberg, for his many years of outstanding and dedicated service to the Co-op and the People of South Carolina and wishes him much happiness following his retirement.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Smith and to the Board of Edisto Electric Cooperative.
