A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND GERALD JAREN DAVIS OF ORANGEBURG COUNTY ON THE FULFILLMENT OF HIS LIFETIME DREAM GRADUATION FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA SCHOOL OF LAW ON FRIDAY, MAY 9, 1997.

Whereas, Gerald Jaren Davis of Orangeburg County has successfully completed the requirements for earning a Juris Doctor Degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law; and

Whereas, the School of Law confers the degrees at ceremonies on Friday, May 9, 1997; and

Whereas, Mr. Davis has fulfilled a lifetime dream in earning and receiving his Juris Doctor Degree; and

Whereas, his graduation and achievement of his dream at the age of forty-eight is an inspiration to his sons, Gary Doremus of Fairfax and Jason Doremus of Bamberg; his two beautiful grandsons, Nicholas and D.G.; his mother, Ruby Davis; and his proud wife, Judge Peggy D. Davis of Orangeburg; and

Whereas, his late father, L. L. Davis, supported and encouraged him to pursue his dreams, as have the other members of his loving family; and

Whereas, the Vietnam veteran began the journey toward law school with service as a state trooper from 1977-1994; and

Whereas, during those years, he graduated from Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College in 1985 and South Carolina State University as a criminal justice major in 1991; and

Whereas, he entered the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1994 as a full-time student; and

Whereas, the May 9, 1997, graduation exercises are the beginning of another dream the practice of criminal law. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina does hereby commend Gerald Jaren Davis of Orangeburg County on the fulfillment of his lifetime dream graduation from the University of South Carolina School of Law on Friday, May 9, 1997.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Gerald Jaren Davis.
