A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

CONGRATULATING COACH MAC QUATTLEBAUM, FORMER INSTRUCTOR AND COACH OF THE HOLLYWOOD HIGH SCHOOL MEN'S AND WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TEAMS, ON BEING HONORED BY SALUDA SCHOOL DISTRICT ONE BY HAVING THE SCHOOL'S GYMNASIUM NAMED FOR HIM.

Whereas, Coach Mac Quattlebaum was born in Newberry County on December 12, 1918; and

Whereas, he received his undergraduate degree from Newberry College; and

Whereas, Coach Quattlebaum was a dedicated instructor and outstanding men's and women's basketball coach at Hollywood High School in Saluda County for forty-three years; and

Whereas, during his forty-three year coaching career, his women's basketball teams captured seven State Championship titles, nine Upper State Championship titles, and compiled an impressive ninety-two game winning streak from 1951 to 1953; and

Whereas, Coach Quattlebaum's men's basketball teams won four District Championship titles; and

Whereas, on May 18, 1997, for his outstanding achievements as an instructor and coach, the Saluda District One School Board is very fittingly dedicating and naming the Hollywood High School Gymnasium in his honor; and

Whereas, this dedication ceremony is a proud moment for Hollywood High School and Saluda County because of the success of Coach Quattlebaum's teams. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulates Coach Mac Quattlebaum, former instructor and men's and women's basketball coach of Hollywood High School in Saluda County, on being honored by Saluda School District One by having the school's gymnasium named for him.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Coach Mac Quattlebaum.
