CONGRATULATING PHYLLIS O. BONANNO ON HER APPOINTMENT AS THE FIFTEENTH PRESIDENT OF COLUMBIA COLLEGE AND ON BECOMING THE FIRST WOMAN PRESIDENT IN THE COLLEGE'S HISTORY.
Whereas, Phyllis O. Bonanno recently was appointed the fifteenth President of Columbia College and thus became the first woman president in the college's illustrious 143-year history; and
Whereas, her selection to head this outstanding liberal arts institution in the Palmetto State's capital city has electrified the faculty, staff, and student body of the college and has received praise from every area of the State; and
Whereas, a welcoming reception and dinner in honor of Ms. Bonanno has been planned by South Carolina Women in Higher Education for Tuesday, June 17, 1997, at the Faculty House at the University of South Carolina in Columbia; and
Whereas, we are delighted to have this opportunity to welcome Ms. Bonanno to Columbia and to express our pleasure in her selection for this prestigious office. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulates Phyllis O. Bonanno on her appointment as the fifteenth President of Columbia College and on becoming the first woman president in the college's history.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Ms. Bonanno.
