TO RECOGNIZE AND CONGRATULATE THE CLASS OF 1947 OF WILKINSON HIGH SCHOOL FORMERLY OF ORANGEBURG COUNTY ON THE OCCASION OF THEIR FIFTIETH HIGH SCHOOL REUNION.
Whereas, the 1947 Class of Wilkinson High School is celebrating its Fiftieth Class Reunion May 30-June 1, 1997; and
Whereas, Wilkinson High School was established in 1937 and was the only high school in South Carolina exclusively for blacks; and
Whereas, this high school was named for Robert Shaw Wilkinson who was the Second President of what is now South Carolina State University; and
Whereas, the Wilkinson High Class of 1947 has produced outstanding homemakers, teachers, military personnel, homebuilders, educators, and doctors and who have made significant contributions to their communities, the State, and our nation; and
Whereas, the motto of the Class of 1947 is "Strive not to equal but to excel"; and
Whereas, the 1947 Class Officers were:
Theodore Jamison President
David Fridie Vice-President
Annie Mae Murray (deceased) Secretary
Eloise Hampton Assistant Secretary
Charity Nix Treasurer
Joseph Williams (deceased) Chaplin
W. C. Jamison Reporter; and
Whereas, the Class of 1947 graduated eighty-eight students with many returning to this Golden Anniversary of their graduation. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That, by this resolution, the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina wishes to recognize and congratulate the Class of 1947 of Wilkinson High School formerly of Orangeburg County on the occasion of their Fiftieth High School Reunion.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Mr. Theodore Jamison, President, and members of the Class of 1947.
