A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

CONGRATULATING EVELYN AND EARL REUBEN OF RICHLAND COUNTY ON THE HAPPY OCCASION OF THEIR FIFTIETH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY AND COMMENDING BOTH OF THEM FOR THEIR MANY CONTRIBUTIONS TO THEIR COMMUNITY OVER THE YEARS.

Whereas, Evelyn and Earl Reuben met while she was a student at Benedict College and entered into the blessed state of matrimony fifty years ago; and

Whereas, Evelyn received her undergraduate degree from Benedict College and a Master's Degree from Hampton University while Earl received his undergraduate degree from Benedict College, his Master's Degree from New York University and attended Indiana University; and

Whereas, Mr. and Mrs. Reuben are blessed with four very successful daughters who are college graduates; and

Whereas, Evelyn taught in the state's public school system for twenty-nine and one-half years while Earl taught in the state's public school system for thirty years, Morris College Summer School for twenty-five years, and Allen University for seven years, and they both retired in 1982; and

Whereas, Evelyn's accomplishments include Honor Society advisor, past president of the Sunshine Neighborhood Club, a member of the Fidelity Club, member of the First Calvary Baptist Church Pulpit Aid Club, president of the Deacon's Wives Ministry, member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, member of the National Education Association, and former Teacher of the Year at John P. Thomas Elementary School; and

Whereas, Earl's accomplishments include past president of the Clarendon County Teachers Association, past president of the Richland County Teachers Association, past chairperson of the Palmetto Association's State Social Studies Department, Omega Man of the Year, former Teacher of the Year at C. A. Johnson High School, member of the United States Constitution Bicentennial Commission of South Carolina for five years, National Education Association Committee person for five years, life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Deacon with the First Calvary Baptist Church for twenty-nine years; and

Whereas, they are the model of a happily married couple, respected by their innumerable friends who admire and love them deeply for their outstanding qualities and exemplary deeds. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, hereby congratulate Mr. and Mrs. Earl Reuben on the special occasion of their fiftieth wedding anniversary and extend to them best wishes for many more years together.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. and Mrs. Earl Reuben of Columbia, South Carolina.
