A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

CONGRATULATING MR. TYRONE CORBIN OF THE NATIONAL BASKETBALL ASSOCIATION'S ATLANTA HAWKS AND RICHLAND COUNTY ON BEING NAMED 1998 CO-MALE PROFESSIONAL PLAYER OF THE YEAR BY THE SOUTH CAROLINA ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME AND COMMENDING HIM ON HIS OUTSTANDING ACCOMPLISHMENTS DURING HIS THIRTEEN-YEAR CAREER AS A PLAYER IN THE NATIONAL BASKETBALL ASSOCIATION.

Whereas, Mr. Tyrone Corbin was born in Richland County, the son of the late Mr. Arthur Corbin and Mrs. Mary Corbin; and

Whereas, he is married to Mrs. Dante Corbin, and together they are the proud parents of two children; and

Whereas, Mr. Corbin is a 1981 graduate of A. C. Flora High School in Columbia, South Carolina, where he excelled in athletics; and

Whereas, he is a 1985 graduate of DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois, where he earned a degree in computer science and was a standout on the basketball court; and

Whereas, Mr. Corbin was initially drafted by the San Antonio Spurs of the National Basketball Association (NBA) in 1985, and this year completed his thirteenth season in the NBA and third year in two stints as a forward with the Atlanta Hawks; and

Whereas, among the many highlights of his NBA career, he recorded the first triple-double in the Minnesota Timberwolves history against the Dallas Mavericks on January 2, 1991, has appeared in sixty-five career play-off games, and has played for eight NBA teams; and

Whereas, during the 1997-1998 season, Mr. Corbin recorded fifteen points, seven rebounds, three assists, and three steals in an 80-78 victory over the Chicago Bulls on November 7, 1997, recorded sixteen points, eight rebounds, and four assists in a 93-77 victory over the Boston Celtics on March 15, 1998, and appeared in his 900th career game on January 2, 1998, against the Los Angeles Lakers; and

Whereas, his dedication to community service makes him one of the most active professional athletes in this area; and

Whereas, his rock-solid play this season, durability throughout his NBA career, and love for his State earned him the distinction of being named the co-Male Professional Player of the Year by the South Carolina Athletic Hall of Fame. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina extend their sincere congratulations to Mr. Tyrone Corbin of the National Basketball Association's Atlanta Hawks and Richland County on being named co-Male Professional Player of the Year by the South Carolina Athletic Hall of Fame and commend him on his outstanding accomplishments and dedication to community service during his thirteen-year career as a player in the NBA.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Tyrone Corbin.
