A BILL

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 9-1-1735 SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT A MEMBER OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA RETIREMENT SYSTEM MAY ESTABLISH SERVICE CREDIT FOR TEACHING IN A PRIVATE SCHOOL, COLLEGE, OR UNIVERSITY WHICH MEETS THE ACCREDITATION STANDARDS OF ITS REGIONAL ACCREDITATION ASSOCIATION IN THE SAME MANNER AND AT THE SAME COST THAT CREDIT MAY BE ESTABLISHED FOR "OUT-OF-STATE SERVICE".

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. Article 13, Chapter 1, Title 9 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 9-1-1735. An active contributing member of the system may establish service credit for time teaching in a private school, college, or university that meets the accreditation standards of its regional accreditation association in the same manner and at the same cost that credit may be established for 'out-of-state service'."

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
