TO APPROVE REGULATIONS OF THE DEPARTMENT OF LABOR, LICENSING AND REGULATION, BOARD OF OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY, RELATING TO DEFINITIONS, OFFICERS OF THE BOARD, BOARD MEETINGS, LICENSURE, CONTINUING EDUCATION, FEES, AND CODE OF ETHICS, DESIGNATED AS REGULATION DOCUMENT NUMBER 2378, PURSUANT TO THE PROVISIONS OF ARTICLE 1, CHAPTER 23, TITLE 1 OF THE 1976 CODE.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. The regulations of the Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation, Board of Occupational Therapy, relating to definitions, officers of the board, board meetings, licensure, continuing education, fees, and code of ethics, designated as Regulation Document Number 2378, and submitted to the General Assembly pursuant to the provisions of Article 1, Chapter 23, Title 1 of the 1976 Code, are approved.
SECTION 2. This joint resolution takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
The Board of Occupational Therapy is considering drafting regulations to supplement its recently enacted practice act. The proposed regulations add definitions of "continuing education" and "contact hour" and address the election of officers of the board and frequency of board meetings. The proposed regulations also establish requirements for licensure of occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants, endorsement, and reactivation of inactive or lapsed licenses. Further requirements include the addition of sixteen contact hours of continuing education for occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants. Finally, the proposed regulations establish fees and adopt a code of ethics.
