(A338, R369, S935)

AN ACT TO AMEND CHAPTER 56, TITLE 33, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO THE SOLICITATION OF CHARITABLE FUNDS ACT, BY ADDING SECTION 33-56-45 SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT A FIRE DEPARTMENT MAY COMPLY WITH THE REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS IF ANNUALLY THE LOCAL GOVERNING BODY SINGLY REGISTERS AND PAYS A SINGLE ANNUAL FEE FOR MULTIPLE FIRE DEPARTMENTS WITHIN ITS JURISDICTION, AND TO REQUIRE THAT AN INDIVIDUAL FIRE DEPARTMENT KEEP NECESSARY RECORDS ON FORMS PROVIDED BY THE SECRETARY OF STATE.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

Registration of multiple fire departments

SECTION 1. Chapter 56, Title 33 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 33-56-45. A fire department conducting or intending to conduct a professional solicitation of charitable funds may comply with the registration and fee requirements of this chapter if the local governing body having jurisdiction over that department and other departments in its area singly registers the multiple departments annually and pays a single annual registration fee of fifty dollars pursuant to Section 33-56-30. The single annual registration and fee payment of fifty dollars effectively registers all fire departments within the jurisdiction of the local governing body. Recordkeeping is the responsibility of individual fire departments, and the Secretary of State shall provide all registered fire departments with the appropriate forms."

Time effective

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.

Ratified the 31st day of May, 2000.

Approved the 6th day of June, 2000.
