INTRODUCED

January 14, 1999

S. 343

Introduced by Senator Cork

S. Printed 1/14/99--S.

Read the first time January 14, 1999.

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO REQUEST THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TO NAME THE CROSS ISLAND PARKWAY BRIDGE IN BEAUFORT COUNTY THE "CHARLES E. FRASER BRIDGE" AND TO ERECT APPROPRIATE MARKERS OR SIGNS.

Whereas, the Cross Island Parkway officially opened in Beaufort County on January 22, 1998; and

Whereas, in November 1957, the Sea Pines Company, under the leadership of Charles E. Fraser, first proposed the idea of building a road and bridge that would span Broad Creek in Beaufort County and serve as an alternate route to William Hilton Parkway; and

Whereas, it is indeed appropriate to recognize the significant contributions which Charles Fraser has made to Hilton Head Island, and also to the State of South Carolina, in creating a planning approach to development which takes into account the natural environment and the unique qualities of Hilton Head. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, requests the Department of Transportation to name the Cross Island Parkway Bridge in Beaufort County the "Charles E. Fraser Bridge" and to erect appropriate signs or markers.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Department of Transportation.
