A HOUSE RESOLUTION

EXPRESSING SORROW AT THE DEATH OF MR. ERNEST BLACKWELL, JR., OF CLARENDON COUNTY, AND EXTENDING SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, Mr. Ernest Blackwell, Jr., of Clarendon County, died in March, 2000, and his funeral was held on Friday, March 24, 2000, at Green Hill Baptist Church in Alcolu; and

Whereas, the staffs of Samuels Funeral Home, Samuels and Richardson Funeral Home, and Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home served as honorary pallbearers, among others; and

Whereas, Mr. Blackwell was a native of Manning and a graduate of the Manning High School Class of 1971; and

Whereas, he attended Claflin College, where he majored in music; and

Whereas, he was director of music for Green Hill Baptist Church; later he worked with other churches and served as organist-minister of music at Ebenezer Baptist Church Sunday School, Mt. Chapel, Rock Hill, Mt. Nebo, Fourth Crossroads and Taw Caw Baptist Churches, Providence, Liberty Hill, Friendship, St. Paul, Brown Chapel, and Trinity A.M.E. Churches and other churches in the surrounding area; he also served as minister of music for Samuels Funeral Home of Manning, Samuels and Richardson Funeral Home of Lake City, and Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home of Kingstree; he was also founder and organizer of the Clarendon County Community Choir; and

Whereas, Mr. Blackwell was devoted to the church and to music; he was respected, admired, and loved throughout the community; and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him and held him dear. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, express sorrow at the death of Mr. Ernest Blackwell, Jr., of Clarendon County, and extend sympathy to his family and many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Blackwell's family, to Hon. Hayes F. Samuels, Jr., and to D. W. Richardson.
