A BILL

TO AMEND ACT 602 OF 1992, RELATING TO THE MANNER IN WHICH THE ANNUAL BUDGET AND TAX MILLAGE FOR THE SCHOOL DISTRICT OF GREENVILLE COUNTY MUST BE DETERMINED, SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT THE BOARD MAY ALSO RAISE THE SCHOOL MILLAGE AS NECESSARY, BUT AT A RATE NOT TO EXCEED FOUR MILLS IN ANY ONE YEAR, TO MAINTAIN A TEACHER SALARY SCHEDULE EQUAL TO THE SALARY SCHEDULE OF ANY OTHER SCHOOL DISTRICT IN THIS STATE.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. Section (1)(D) of Act 602 of 1992 is amended to read:

"(D) The board may increase the budget to the amount necessary to raise revenue to the level of combined mandates, reductions, and inflation, not to exceed four mills in any one year. In addition, the board may also raise the millage as necessary, but at a rate not to exceed four mills in any one year, to maintain a teacher salary schedule equal to the salary schedule of any other school district in this State. If the board finds it necessary to increase the budget beyond the limits prescribed in this subsection, it shall submit the question to the qualified electors of the district by referendum."

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
